Those convicted in connection with the October 4 events—Murtaz Zodelava, Lasha Beridze, Guri Zhvania, and Irakli Chkhvirkia—have entered into a plea bargain agreement. The deal between the prosecution and the convicts was approved by the Tbilisi Court of Appeals.
An admission of guilt is a prerequisite for finalizing a plea agreement.
Under the terms of the deal, all four convicts were sentenced to 3 years and 1 month of imprisonment, of which they will serve 1 year and 1 month in a penitentiary facility, with the remaining 2 years suspended.
Murtaz Zodelava and Lasha Beridze will be released from custody on November 4, Irakli Chkhvirkia on November 6, and Guri Zhvania on November 16.
Murtaz Zodelava and Lasha Beridze are members of the “October 4 Organizing Committee.” On May 7, 2026, they were each sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment, while Guri Zhvania and Irakli Chkhvirkia were each sentenced to 5 years.
Murtaz Zodelava was charged under three counts: attempted seizure of strategically important facilities committed by a group of persons; organizing and directing group violence; and calling for the violent overthrow of state power.
Lasha Beridze was charged under two counts: attempted seizure of strategically important facilities committed by a group of persons, and organizing and directing group violence.
As for Irakli Chkhvirkia, the prosecution charged him with the attempted group seizure of strategically important facilities and participation in organized group violence.
Guri Zhvania, meanwhile, was charged with participation in organized group violence.
As a reminder, on October 4, 2025, alongside municipal elections in Georgia, a mass protest dubbed the “National Assembly” by the opposition took place in central Tbilisi. During the rally, a declaration was read out announcing the termination of the authorities’ powers and the beginning of a peaceful transition period. Shortly thereafter, part of the opposition and their supporters marched toward the presidential residence, where protesters knocked down a fence and attempted to breach the Orbeliani Palace. The rally was dispersed by riot police.
