Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze received Courtney Austrian, the acting US Ambassador in Tbilisi, at the government administration.

According to the Cabinet’s press service, Kobakhidze congratulated Austrian on her appointment and wished her success.

According to the government press office, the two sides discussed Georgia–US relations during the meeting.

“The Prime Minister reaffirmed Georgia’s readiness to restore the strategic partnership with the United States with a clean slate. Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized the important role of the acting ambassador in this process,” the statement reads.

The United States currently has no ambassador to Georgia. The diplomatic mission is led by a chargé d’affaires. Washington has not appointed an ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary following the resignation of Robin Dunnigan.

Dunnigan, during whose tenure the United States suspended its long-standing strategic partnership with Georgia in November 2024, announced her decision to step down on June 5, 2025.
