According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, officers of the Migration Department conducted targeted immigration control operations across the country, detaining 61 foreign nationals residing in Georgia illegally.
Those detained include citizens of Thailand, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Jordan, China, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
“As part of special immigration control measures, Migration Department officers inspected facilities of various purposes. The inspections established that the detained individuals were residing in Georgia in violation of the requirements set forth in the Law of Georgia ‘On the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons,’” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
The detainees have reportedly been placed in the Migration Department’s Temporary Accommodation Center, and procedures for their expulsion from Georgia are currently underway.
