Nikolai Bordyuzha, former Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), has stated that Georgia refrained from opening a second front against Russia because its leadership realized the West intended to exploit the country for its own ends.
“In my view, the Georgians are very wise people; they realized where they were being led and how they were being used. Ukraine didn’t understand this, but the Georgians did. They were urged to open a second front when the special military operation began, and they refused. They understood that there was an intention to use them as well, simply as cannon fodder. And they very wisely stepped away from that,” Bordyuzha said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the former CSTO chief, countries promised European Union membership sooner or later realize that the West is merely using them for its own interests. Bordyuzha also asserted that the European Union has no need for either Tbilisi or Kyiv.
“Sooner or later, it becomes clear what is wanted of you, and that is how the Georgians understood what was expected from them. Europe is thousands of kilometers away. Does the European Union really want to admit Georgia? I seriously doubt it. They can play on that hope, they can make promises, which is precisely what they are doing. Europe has absolutely no need for Georgia in the EU, let alone Ukraine.”
Similar statements have consistently been made in Tbilisi. Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, representatives of the ruling Georgian Dream party have repeatedly claimed that certain forces were pressuring Georgia to open a second front against the Russian Federation.
