Between July and September 2026, readmission approval to return to Georgia from European Union countries was granted for 745 individuals. In total, 2,156 citizens underwent the readmission procedure over the first nine months of this year, the news outlet BPN reports, citing statistics from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 753 readmission applications were reviewed in the third quarter of 2026, with only eight individuals denied.

Official figures show that the largest number of Georgian citizens returned over the past three months of 2026 came from Germany, followed by Ireland and France.

Drawing on the Ministry’s data, BPN lists the European states from which the highest numbers of Georgian citizens were returned over the three-month period (July, August, September):

In addition, Ministry data indicates that five Georgian citizens each were removed from Sweden and Belgium, three from Bulgaria, two from Austria, and so on.

As for the previous year’s figures, 3,437 Georgian citizens residing illegally in European countries were returned under readmission agreements in 2025.

The Agreement between Georgia and the European Union on the Readmission of Persons Residing Without Authorisation entered into force on 1 March 2011. It provides the legal basis for returning Georgian nationals unlawfully residing within the EU. The agreement also regulates the return of third-country nationals under conditions specified in the document. All transport costs associated with readmission and transit up to the border of the state of final destination are covered by the requesting state.
