The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia will not investigate a case against Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze “due to the absence of the elements of a crime.” The agency stated that it declined the complaint submitted by animal rights activist Lasha Chkhartishvili, the IPN news agency reported.
“Due to the absence of elements of a crime, an investigation into the complaint filed against Kakha Kaladze will not be initiated.”
Chkhartishvili regarded the capital mayor’s statement as a death threat and demanded that he be held legally accountable. Earlier, responding to protests by animal advocates, Kaladze claimed that “5–6 individuals are in such a state that they ought to be taken away and put down this very day.”
At the time, the mayor also called for an immediate investigation into the people who “dug up the burial site.” This refers to a burial ground where canine remains were uncovered during a journalistic investigation.
