The leader of the Droa! party, Elene Khoshtaria, currently serving a sentence in the Rustavi women’s prison, has responded to her party being designated an undesirable organization in Russia. According to the opposition politician, following this decision by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, she is “accepting congratulations.”
“If I and my Droa party were desirable to Putin’s bloody regime, I might as well kill myself.
Naturally, the fact that we are undesirable to Putin’s regime is solely a reason for pride. It is truly an honor! In fact, for Russia, any pro-Georgian—and therefore pro-European—party is hostile. That is precisely why Georgian Dream is banning them. Moreover, any pro-Georgian citizen of Georgia is an enemy to Putin.
Fortunately, we are in the majority, while people like Shalva Papuashvili are in an absolute minority.
Until the very end!” Elene Khoshtaria wrote from prison.
Earlier, it was reported that the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation had designated the Droa! party an undesirable organization due to its “Russophobic stance.”
“[The party] focuses on the so-called exposure of the local ruling elite’s ties with Russia, the dismantling of Georgia’s one-party system, and promoting the idea of the country’s accelerated integration into the European Union.
Its members adhere to pronounced Russophobic positions and aim to discredit our country’s actions regarding Georgia. They oppose the normalization of bilateral relations with Russia in the political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres, demand the reinstatement of a visa regime, and call for the termination of direct air travel between the two countries. They claim that Russia has occupied Abkhazia and South Ossetia, violating norms of international law and the sovereignty of the South Caucasus state,” the Russian authority’s statement read.
