Aleksandre Tamazashvili, the brother of convicted former Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s wife, has stated that Garibashvili is being denied the opportunity to see his children. According to Tamazashvili, Garibashvili has seen his children only twice over the past 11 months.

“Show humanity and let Irakli see his children. This post is not about politics, nor is it about a legal ‘spiderweb.’ People may dislike Irakli as a politician. To some, he may well be the greatest ‘criminal’ in Georgia’s history; many believe he fell victim to political manipulation. Others see a major political calculation and maneuver here…

In short, there is a multitude of opinions and theories surrounding Irakli. However, there is hardly anyone who would rejoice at Irakli being barred from seeing his young children as an ‘additional’ punishment,” Tamazashvili wrote on social media.

According to him, the official reason given for the refusals is that the allocated visitation limit has been exhausted. “An additional visit is an act of goodwill and an incentive that, by law, depends on the decision of the prison warden,” Garibashvili’s relative explained.

As a reminder, the former prime minister of Georgia is currently serving a five-year sentence on charges of money laundering. In August 2026, the prosecutor’s office brought a new charge against Garibashvili: receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. This statute provides for a prison term ranging from 11 to 15 years.
