European Parliament to hold debate on banning opposition parties in Georgia

The European Parliament will hold a debate and vote on a resolution regarding Georgia on October 7, according to information published on the European Parliament’s website.

The debate is titled: “Attempts by the ruling party ‘Georgian Dream’ to ban opposition parties in Georgia.” A vote on the corresponding resolution is scheduled for the following day, October 8.

As a reminder, Georgian Dream has filed a lawsuit with the country’s Constitutional Court seeking to declare unconstitutional and ban the activities of the following opposition forces:

  • “United National Movement”;
  •  “Coalition for Change”;
  • “Strong Georgia – Lelo”;
  • “Federalists”;
  • “Gakharia for Georgia”.
