The Orthodox world is celebrating the holy holiday of Easter. This day is known as the “feast of feasts.”
In observance of this great day, Easter liturgies were held in churches across Georgia last night.
At the Sioni Cathedral in Tbilisi, where the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, rests, the festive service was led by the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne, Shio.
The liturgy was attended by representatives of the Georgian government, including Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, the sixth president Mikheil Kavelashvili, and others.
At the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem on Holy Saturday, April 11, 2026, the descent of the Holy Fire is regarded by believers as undeniable testimony to the Resurrection of Christ and the mercy of the Lord.
The Holy Fire descended upon the Tomb of the Lord at 15:13 Tbilisi time.
According to the Holy Gospel, the Lord Jesus Christ was incarnated for the salvation of mankind and the atonement of sins, was crucified, and rose again on the third day. By His resurrection, He reopened the gates of paradise to humanity.
