Lelo Member: Prices for Absolutely All Goods Have Risen Since Commission Began Its Work

Tazo Datunshvili, one of the leaders of the “Lelo – Strong Georgia” (Lelo – Silnaya Gruziya) coalition, has described Georgia’s Price Study Commission as a “complete farce.” The opposition politician noted that since the commission began its work, prices for all essential consumer goods have only continued to rise.

“It is crucial that the Prime Minister of Georgia be held accountable on this issue; he has filled the country’s citizens with pathological lies and has disappeared from all radars in recent days…

I believe now is the most appropriate moment to see that the price study commission in this country has turned out to be a complete farce. Since it began its work, prices for absolutely all essential goods have increased. The rise in prices has continued uninterrupted since this commission started functioning.

Data for 2026 shows that food inflation in Georgia reached 7.5%. Specifically, fish prices rose by 22%, nuts and grapes by 14%, bread and bakery products by 10%, meat and meat products by 10%, oils and other fats by 8%, sugar, jam, and other sweets by 5%, and vegetables and melons by 5%. The price of eggs also increased by 4.5%.

The reality is this: the electricity tariff promised in 2012, which was supposed to be halved, has instead increased by another third. This process is irreversible and means that prices for all goods and services will rise. For the commission’s information, the Poultry Association issued an official statement indicating that, based on global conditions and reality, egg prices will inevitably rise because electricity costs have increased. Against this backdrop, the ‘Georgian Dream’ (Gruzinskaya Mechta) commission established what is already known to every citizen of Georgia, even a five-year-old: that Georgia is an import-dependent country.

This was established by seven millionaires who staged a masquerade for the population, deceived them, and insulted them daily with their actions…

This commission is a lie, and it has nothing to do with your real life. Except perhaps that a few unscrupulous millionaires have learned for the first time in their lives how much oil, milk, sugar, and bread cost in Georgian supermarkets. I have a question for the Georgian government: Who will take responsibility before the population of Georgia, whose cost of living has increased by at least 30% during the time this commission has been operating?” Datunshvili stated.
