Tina Bokuchava, Chair of the United National Movement (UNM), commented on the statement by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova regarding the potential inclusion of Georgia in the list of “unfriendly countries.” The opposition politician stated that the current government in Georgia is effectively carrying out Putin’s orders.
“Unfortunately, today we have a de facto ruler who is implementing all of Russia’s strategic goals regarding Georgia, depriving the country—and effectively having already deprived it—of the prospect of becoming a member of the European Union. In this sense, Ivanishvili is perfectly executing the assignment from Zakharova and her master, Vladimir Putin,” Bokuchava stated.
As a reminder, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated at a press conference that Russia could include Georgia in its list of unfriendly countries should it join the European Union.
She also stated that it is not entirely clear to the Russian side how Tbilisi can strive to join a bloc whose members impose sanctions against Georgia “for absolutely nothing,” which “provoke it into new anti-Russian military adventures.”
