53 Foreign Nationals Detained in Georgia for Migration Violations

As a result of comprehensive immigration control operations conducted by the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) in Tbilisi, Zugdidi, Kobuleti, and Batumi, 53 foreign nationals have been detained. These include citizens of Kenya, Uganda, India, Turkmenistan, the Philippines, Cuba, Jordan, Russia, Turkey, Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the agency, during the operations, department officials inspected specific locations and various facilities to identify foreign citizens staying in Georgia without legal grounds.

“It has been established that the detained individuals were in the country in violation of the Law of Georgia ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.’”

“The detainees are currently held at the Migration Department’s temporary placement center. Relevant procedures are being carried out for their deportation from the country,” the statement reads.
