Givi Mikanadze, Georgia’s Minister of Education, addressed the introduction of mandatory school uniforms in public schools. He noted that the state would regulate the cost, while socially vulnerable families would receive the uniforms free of charge.
According to the minister, this will allow uniforms to be sold at a minimum price, making it significantly more affordable for families than providing a child with clothing throughout the academic year.
“It is particularly important to ensure an equal approach and to ensure there are no disparities in clothing that cause dissatisfaction in schools among both students and parents. This element of inequality must be eliminated once and for all.
<…> Furthermore, following a decision by the Prime Minister, all families with children in grades 1 through 6 who are classified as socially vulnerable by the Ministry of Health and have a rating of 60,000 points or less will receive school uniforms for free,” the minister stated.
