Jozwiak: Georgia must end aggressive rhetoric against the EU

Rikard Jozwiak, Europe editor for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, reported that the EU Foreign Affairs Council discussed the situation in Georgia.

EU officials emphasized that Georgia must cease its aggressive rhetoric toward the European Union, stop harassing opponents, and revise laws targeting NGOs in the country.

“Foreign ministers discussed Georgia today. There was no movement on [personal] sanctions in the room. There is an EU push to conduct a human rights dialogue with Georgia as a first step. For anything further, Georgia must:

  • stop aggressive language against the EU;
  • stop harassing the opposition;
  • revisit legislation concerning civil society organizations,” Jozwiak writes.
