Geostat: Georgia’s Population Stands at 3,929,581

According to updated data as of November 14, 2024, the population of Georgia reached 3,929,581, reports the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Women account for 52% of the population (2,048,577 people), while men make up 48% (1,881,004 people).

“The proportion of women is relatively higher in Tbilisi and Kutaisi, at 54%, while it is lower in the municipalities of Keda, Khelvachauri, Kharagauli, Sagarejo, and Marneuli, at approximately 49%.

According to the census results, as of November 14, 2024, 62% of the population (2,442,231 people) live in urban settlements, while 38% (1,487,350 people) live in rural areas. By region, excluding Tbilisi, the highest share of urban population is observed in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara (67%), driven by the high population of Batumi. A relatively low share of urban population is noted in the regions of Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kakheti, Racha-Lechkhumi, and Kvemo Svaneti, at approximately 24%.

In the structure of Georgia’s population, the largest shares are held by the age groups 35–39 years (7.6%), 10–14 years (7.4%), and 30–34 years (7.2%). It should also be noted that the proportion of women is particularly high among the population aged 85 and older: in this age group, the number of women is 2.6 times higher than the number of men.

According to the 2024 census data, 1,331,485 people live in Tbilisi, representing 34% of the country’s population. The regions of Imereti (510,741 people) and Kvemo Kartli (441,630 people) rank second and third in terms of population size, accounting for 13% and 11% of the population, respectively.

The 2024 General Population and Agricultural Census of Georgia was conducted from November 14 to December 31, 2024, and covered the entire territory of the country, with the exception of the occupied territories. In accordance with international methodology, the census included all Georgian citizens permanently residing in the country, as well as foreign citizens and stateless persons present on its territory,” the statement said.
