Three Individuals Charged with Espionage in Georgia

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has filed charges against three individuals in an espionage case.

According to the investigation conducted by the Counterintelligence Department of the State Security Service (SSSG), it has been established that the defendants, acting against the interests of Georgia on behalf of a foreign intelligence service, collected and transmitted various types of information, including data on Georgian law enforcement agencies and strategic facilities.

The criminal investigation is ongoing under Article 314 (Espionage), which carries a penalty of up to 12 years in prison.

The Prosecutor’s Office will petition the court within the legally prescribed timeframe to remand the defendants in custody as a preventive measure, the agency reported.
