“Mobilization works [for the construction of the Anaklia deep-sea port] have already been completed,” stated the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.
Tamar Ioseliani reported that the contractor—Jan De Nul, a member of the Belgian “Big Four” in marine construction—is now moving into the active phase of construction works.
“During this period, we managed to save approximately $52 million within the framework of this project. A breakwater approximately 1,380 meters long will be built, and the entrance channel will be deepened to about 18 meters to allow large vessels to enter the Anaklia seaport.
This is a major priority for us, to further strengthen Georgia’s role as a leading transit country in the Middle Corridor,” Tamar Ioseliani stated.
According to her, the country has a “consistent and systemic development plan” in this direction, which includes seaports and railway infrastructure, the development of the road network and highway construction, as well as the aviation sector, including the Vaziani International Airport project.
