Direct flights between Shanghai and Tbilisi are set to launch on July 15. The decision was reached during a meeting between Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and the management of the Chinese carrier China Eastern Airlines, held as part of Mariam Kvrivishvili’s visit to the People’s Republic of China.

According to the Georgian ministry, China Eastern Airlines will operate regular flights on the Shanghai–Tbilisi–Shanghai route three times a week.

“Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized the particular importance of launching direct air service between Georgia and China’s primary financial hub, noting that this decision will facilitate the further development of business and economic ties between the two nations.

As the Deputy Minister stated, the launch of direct flights on the Tbilisi–Shanghai route is another demonstration of the high level of political and economic relations between the countries. According to Kvrivishvili, this decision will strengthen people-to-people contacts and economic ties, support Georgia’s tourism industry, and contribute to the generation of additional revenue.

The meeting also highlighted Georgia’s status as the official partner country for ITB China 2026, one of Asia’s most prestigious and large-scale tourism exhibitions, which will take place on May 26–28 of this year in Shanghai and will significantly contribute to the promotion of Georgia’s tourism potential,” the statement said.
