“Dream” Leader: EU is acting against Georgia’s interests

0

Irakli Kirtskhalia, the parliamentary leader of “Georgian Dream” (the ruling party), evaluating the statement made by EU Ambassador Pawel Herczynski, stated that in recent years, European politicians have been “boldly interfering” in Georgia’s internal political affairs and acting “outside any framework of diplomacy and morality,” while “openly and shamelessly siding with their already proven, promoted so-called opposition.”

The MP stated that society clearly sees the state of the opposition, which he described as an “instrument in the hands of the Euro-bureaucracy.”

Therefore, as Kirtskhalia noted, Euro-bureaucrats “so boldly and openly” make “anti-state, anti-constitutional, and insulting statements and actions.”

The leader of the parliamentary majority stated that when attempts are made to pass off things that disparage the values of the Georgian people as European values, it signifies entering a “deliberately losing game.”

“When they tell you that the path to Europe allegedly passes through a lack of transparency; that LGBTQ+ propaganda among children, minors, and the country as a whole is the European way, while the protection of family values is, as it turns out, anti-European; when they insult and for many years belittle the most important and sacred thing—faith; when they tell you that there shouldn’t be such a strong church here and that the path to Europe passes through a weakened church—of course, this is entering a losing game when dealing with the Georgian people. Neither they nor their patrons have understood what our society actually wants,” Kirtskhalia explained.

The “Dream” MP also noted that “unelected bureaucracy is not Europe and not European values for us.”

“It is clear as day what goals this dirtiest force, which is today rampant in Brussels, in this unelected bureaucracy and political elite, was pursuing—this will not pass in our country.

Our country did not enter the war, we have maintained peace, and they are and will be constantly troubled by the fact that our country is moving forward with dignity, with its head held high.

Unelected bureaucracy is not Europe and not European values for us.

For us, Europe and European values are what Europe once stood for.

Where Europe is today and what challenges it faces—we, the whole world, and the societies of the EU countries themselves see very well,” Kirtskhalia concluded on the government-loyal Imedi TV.

As a reminder, the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, spoke in Brussels about the prospects of Georgia’s European future, which was received critically by the Georgian authorities: Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze deemed it appropriate to summon the diplomat to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

EU Ambassador Pawel Herczynski stated that Georgia is at a “crossroads” and its future depends on the choice of the authorities and society. The diplomat also noted that there is a risk of deviating from the European path and that the EU is concerned about Georgia’s “democratic backsliding.” He urged Georgian society not to lose its European perspective.
