The EU Embassy has issued an official statement regarding the meeting between EU Ambassador Paweł Herczyński and Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili. The diplomatic mission reported that the conversation was substantive and focused on EU-Georgia relations.
The EU Delegation emphasizes that the current course of the Georgian authorities is distancing the country from the prospect of joining the European Union, while persistent anti-European rhetoric undermines trust in Georgia’s stated aspirations for EU membership.
It was also noted that the EU does not force countries to join—the process is voluntary. The Embassy stressed that the EU hopes the Georgian authorities will not miss the remaining historic opportunity for European integration.
“Since Georgia gained independence, the EU has supported the country, helping it build a democratic and prosperous state. The EU has repeatedly demonstrated its desire for Georgia to move forward. EU leaders unanimously decided to grant Georgia candidate status. Like the majority of Georgians, we believe that EU membership offers Georgia the best guarantee of peace and prosperity.
Joining the EU requires sincere commitment and real reforms aimed at bringing Georgia into alignment with EU values and standards.
