Georgia’s State Security Service (SSG) has a new leader. Parliament has confirmed Geka Geladze, who previously headed Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, for the position.

Geladze’s candidacy was supported by 85 deputies, while 12 voted against.

In accordance with the Law “On the State Security Service” and parliamentary regulations, Geladze has been appointed head of the SSG for a six-year term.

Prior to the vote, Parliament formally acknowledged the voluntary resignation of Mamuka Mdinaradze from the post of SSG head and the subsequent early termination of his mandate.

Notably, this is the third time in the past year that the election of the SSG head has been included on the parliamentary agenda. Following the resignation of Grigol Liluashvili, Parliament confirmed Anri Okhanashvili on April 4, 2025, who held the position for only four months.

On September 3, 2025, Mamuka Mdinaradze was elected head of the State Security Service; he is now set to become the State Minister for Law Enforcement Coordination.

This position does not currently exist within the government structure, and Parliament is fast-tracking a bill to establish the post of State Minister for Law Enforcement Coordination within the cabinet.
