During a meeting of the Holy Synod, Metropolitan Andria Gvazava of Gori and Ateni intended to put forward his candidacy for the patriarchal elections. The Metropolitan made this statement during the Synod session held on April 28, according to Formula TV, citing an undisclosed source.
The potential nomination of Andria Gvazava raised concerns among supporters of Metropolitan Shio Mujiri, as it could have “lured away” at least two or three people from their ranks. According to Formula’s source, supporters of the Locum Tenens (temporary head of the church) Shio pointed out a “certain moral transgression” to Metropolitan Andria.
It was stated during the meeting that “journalists would dig up” this story, which would cause reputational damage to the church. Some members of the Synod perceived this as an overt threat against Metropolitan Andria Gvazava.
Ultimately, the Metropolitan of Gori and Ateni withdrew his candidacy for the patriarchal elections.
The Synod named three candidates for the post of the new Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia
