US Senate Resolution on Press Freedom Mentions Mzia Amaglobeli

A resolution on the protection of press freedom has been introduced in the US Senate, which mentions Georgian journalist Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of the Netgazeti and Batumelebi outlets.

US senators introduced the resolution to mark World Press Freedom Day on May 3, 2026.

The document “recognizes the growing threats to press freedom worldwide, including increased risks for journalists working in conflict zones and under repressive regimes.”

The document also states that, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists, more than 300 journalists were detained worldwide in 2025, including Mzia Amaglobeli.

The resolution was authored by Democratic Senator Brian Schatz.
