The so-called opposition in the Tskhinvali region is demanding the early resignation of the “president” of the occupied territory of Georgia — de facto leader Alan Gagloev. His team has been accused of corruption and the inefficient spending of Russian funds.
Vladimir Kelekhsaev, leader of the Unity of the People party (Yedinstvo Naroda), stated that approximately 1.5 billion rubles in concessional loans may have been misappropriated or used opaquely. According to him, out of a new 4-billion-ruble tranche from the Russian Federation, tangible results were limited to only a few industrial facilities, while a significant portion of the funds remains untraceable.
It is alleged that the Russian funds were not directed toward supporting the rural population and small businesses, as had been previously proposed.
Gagloev is also being criticized by the local NGO “Civil Platform” (Grazhdanskaya Platforma), which reported pressure from the de facto authorities and a refusal to allow a roundtable discussion to be held in a library.
The Tskhinvali opposition claims that the so-called government is heightening social tension and leading the region toward a crisis. They state that the only way out is their single demand — the early resignation of Alan Gagloev.
Accusations were also voiced regarding potential attempts to influence the future so-called “presidential” elections, which are scheduled to be held in April 2027.
It should be noted that the Georgian government and the international community consider any so-called elections in the occupied territories of Georgia to be illegitimate.
