The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) reports that the primary driver of annual inflation was the change in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages.
In this category, prices rose by 7.5%, contributing 2.58 percentage points to the annual inflation rate.
In April, prices increased for:
- fish and fish products by 21.3%;
- fruit and grapes by 11.8%;
- meat and meat products by 10.1%;
- vegetables and melons by 9.3%;
- bread and cereals by 7.7%;
- sugar, jam, and other confectionery by 7.3%;
- oils and fats by 6.3%;
- milk, cheese, and eggs by 4.5%;
- coffee, tea, and cocoa by 3.2%;
- mineral and spring water, soft drinks, and fruit juices by 0.8%.
In the transport sector, prices rose by 10.3%, impacting annual inflation by 1.2 percentage points. Prices increased by 15.1% for the operation of personal transport equipment and by 9.2% for transport services.
Housing, water, electricity, gas: prices in this group rose by 6.5%, contributing 0.62 percentage points to the overall index. Price increases were recorded in the following subgroups: electricity, gas, and other fuels (10.2%), maintenance and repair of dwellings (4.3%), and actual rentals for housing (3.5%).
Miscellaneous goods and services: prices in this category rose by 9.0%, impacting the overall index by 0.45 percentage points.
Price increases were primarily recorded in the following subgroups: personal effects not elsewhere classified (49.6%), insurance (8.5%), and personal care (4.6%).
