Kallas: Georgian Government Moving in the Wrong Direction

0

Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has arrived in Yerevan for the European Political Community (EPC) summit. She stated that the Georgian government is moving in the wrong direction despite its desire to join the EU, emphasizing that Europe is defined not only by geography but by values and principles.

“Naturally, the summit taking place in Yerevan also demonstrates the importance of the Caucasus, especially now with the war in Iran. We are talking about connectivity, but also about resilience to the threats we face.

“<…> Regarding relations between Georgia and Europe, if we look at the geography, we see which countries are located here. Thus, discussions are certainly being held on what we can do in this direction to advance the issue of ‘Middle Corridor’ connectivity.

“We have certain questions regarding Georgia, given that the government is effectively failing to take steps despite its declarations of wanting to join the European Union. We see that they are moving in the wrong direction. This also imposes restrictions on us, for example, regarding the allocation of funding,” Kallas stated.
