New Tbilisi Zoo to Open in Phases Starting July

The new Tbilisi Zoo will begin welcoming visitors this summer, according to IPN (Interpressnews). Zoo Director Zurab Gurielidze stated that the new facility is expected to open to the public in the first half of July.

The first inhabitants of the new zoo will be animals native to the Caucasus region—bears, wolves, deer, and wild goats.

In the initial stage, only the Caucasian section will be open to visitors, with an African section set to be added next year.

“The first part to open will be the Caucasus, which includes the Caucasian exposition. We plan to add Africa next year. The enclosures will open in stages, and various animal species will be added. Regarding the arrival of giraffes, this involves several factors. First, we need to complete the construction of the enclosures and then bring them in; we will try to acquire this species soon,” he noted.

The ticket price for the Tbilisi Zoo has not yet been announced.
