Georgian PM: Ready to do everything possible to restore relations with Ukraine to the fullest

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has stated that Georgia is prepared to take all possible steps to restore relations with Ukraine to the maximum extent possible.

Commenting on his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Yerevan, the politician noted that despite existing difficulties, a “very long history of friendship” remains between the two countries, and the Georgian side is ready to do everything to normalize relations between both the states and the governments.

“These challenges have accumulated, but there is a very long history of friendship and relations between our countries. Based on this, we are ready to do everything so that these relations are restored as much as possible and so that this is reflected in the relations between the governments. All reasonable steps can be taken on our part,” he stated.

Kobakhidze noted that the Georgian government sympathizes with the Ukrainian people, who are in a dire situation—in a state of war. He pointed to the extremely difficult economic and social conditions.

“We express our support for the Ukrainian people in every way. Naturally, we are interested in maintaining friendly relations between the countries and governments. Let’s wait for developments. There is full readiness on our part,” the Prime Minister said.

He also noted that he had never mentioned Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a negative context.

“I personally have never mentioned Zelenskyy in a negative context, and there is a simple reason for this: he is the president of a country that is currently at war, and that country is our friend. Therefore, I have always carefully chosen my words regarding Zelenskyy,” the politician noted.

Kobakhidze declined to disclose the details of his meeting with Zelenskyy and reiterated that the conversation between the two leaders was “friendly and future-oriented.”

“Problems, of course, remain. Neither Adeishvili nor Lortkipanidze [former Georgian officials wanted by Tbilisi] have gone anywhere, nor have the statements that were made, nor the decision to recall the ambassador, and so on. Yesterday, we mainly focused on a friendly conversation.

The mood was exactly like that, which is very important. We did not delve into details, including the problems. The problems existed and have not disappeared, but we must be focused on the future,” Kobakhidze concluded.
