Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, speaking at the “Historical Renewal” presentation of Georgian Railway, stated that reforms implemented over the past year have already yielded tangible results and emphasized the key role of connectivity and transport infrastructure development for the country’s economic growth.
He noted that Georgian Railway plays a special role in the development of Georgia.
“A year ago, the company’s leadership was completely replaced, laying the foundation for a series of reforms and changes that have already produced tangible results over this past year.
Overall, the importance of connectivity for our country must be emphasized. Developing our country’s transit function is of particular significance for its growth and the development of the economy. Very important investments are being implemented in various sectors in this direction. Large-scale investments are being made in the development of high-speed highways, and by 2030, practically all key sections will be completed,” Kobakhidze stated.
The head of government reported that the authorities have “very ambitious plans”: the capacity of Kutaisi International Airport will be significantly expanded, and by 2031, Tbilisi will have a completely new international airport capable of handling approximately 18 million passengers per year.
Kobakhidze once again assured that the Anaklia port will be built.
“We have an ambitious plan to build the Anaklia port, which is one of the most important infrastructure projects and will also contribute to the development of the connectivity function. In all of this, the development of the railway is of particular importance. This is precisely why the development of Georgian Railway is at the center of the government’s special attention,” the Prime Minister stated.
