MEP: Georgia’s European perspective remains alive

0

MEP Rasa Juknevičienė stated that the Prime Minister of Georgia has done everything possible to convince people with vastly different political views—political groups and pro-European forces—that the situation in the country does not meet any of the criteria for EU candidacy.

She thanked all the rapporteurs for their “incredible unity” in preparing the European Parliament’s report on Georgia.

Juknevičienė expressed her belief in the European perspective of Georgia and the Georgian people.

“On the other hand, we are adopting this report against the backdrop of a special forum in Yerevan. I believe every pro-Western Georgian is pleased that the European perspective in the South Caucasus is alive, but I understand their—the Georgians’—disappointment that Tbilisi remains outside of this process. At this stage, I believe in the European perspective of Georgia and the Georgian people,” she stated.

It should be noted that on May 5, the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs adopted the report on Georgia. 53 MEPs voted in favor of the annual report, while 14 voted against.
