An extended church council, at which the election of the new Catholicos-Patriarch is to take place, will be held next week, announced Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri) of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, the Locum Tenens (acting representative) of the Patriarchal Throne, following a divine service dedicated to the feast of Giorgoba (Saint George’s Day).
“As you know, next week we are to hold a large extended church council, where the election of the new Catholicos-Patriarch must take place.
I want to ask our clergy, our religious order, each of you, and our dear flock to intensify your prayers so that we may conduct this great event with dignity, peace, and love, so that God’s will may be fulfilled and a beneficial decision and choice may be made for our church and our people.
First and foremost, let us pray to Saint George. May Saint George help us all, as well as the soul of His Holiness and Beatitude, and bless each of us,” Metropolitan Shio noted.
