The Tbilisi City Court has ordered pretrial detention for Giorgi Udzilauri—the former head of a department within the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance and former head of public relations for the Cartu Group—who was detained on charges of espionage.
Judge David Kurtanidze thus granted the motion filed by the prosecution.
The trial was closed to the public immediately after it began, as the case has been classified as “top secret.”
Regarding the defendant’s position, lawyer Beka Guledani stated that Giorgi Udzilauri does not plead guilty and is exercising his right to remain silent.
