Journalist Guram Rogava has commented on the detention of five individuals in the case concerning violence against him, protester Zviad Maisashvili, and politician Levan Khabeishvili during the 2024 protests. He asserts that “the individual reported by our source is not among those detained.”
“The briefing held by the Prosecutor’s Office raises many questions for me. No identities were disclosed; not even initials were mentioned. According to my information, the person reported by our source is not among those detained.
It is crucial that the investigation targets not only the perpetrators but also the masterminds who issued the orders and the protectors of these criminals. I want to know the whereabouts of Zviad Kharazishvili, David Kamarauli, Vasil Gasviani, and Luka Edilashvili—these are the high-ranking officials who directed this bloody operation,” Rogava stated in his address.
As a reminder, on November 29, 2024, during a protest on Rustaveli Avenue, an officer from the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) used physical violence against journalist Guram Rogava while he was performing his professional duties.
The Prosecutor’s Office has detained five individuals, including three former and one current security officer, as well as one current employee of the MVD Security Police Department, in connection with the violence.
According to the Prosecutor General, two of the five detainees are already in custody as part of investigations into other criminal cases.
