US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Sonata Coulter met with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili. According to the Georgian government administration, Kobakhidze reaffirmed his readiness to restart bilateral relations—”renewing the strategic partnership from a clean slate, based on a specific roadmap focused on tangible results.”

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of interconnectivity and Georgia’s role in the Middle Corridor.

According to Maka Bochorishvili, another delegation from the US is scheduled to visit at the end of May, during which further steps for cooperation between Georgia and the United States will be discussed in greater detail.

“The visit of the US State Department delegation is aimed at discussing how cooperation between Georgia and the US should be developed. We discussed issues that are important in the process of resetting relations between the two countries. We talked about future steps. At the end of the month, we also expect another delegation, during whose visit further steps of our cooperation will be considered in more detail.

One thing is noteworthy—both sides realize how important it is to continue relations based on respect and pragmatic cooperation, which is of great significance. It is encouraging that the American delegation is conveying the same messages that were voiced by the Georgian side,” stated Maka Bochorishvili.
