Giuseppe Pasotto, Bishop of the Catholic Church in Georgia, congratulated Shio III on his patriarchate while in Verona, Italy. He addressed the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia with the wish that he might have “hope in the word and deed” of the Catholic Church.

In the letter, Pasotto expressed hope that the new Patriarch would foster the development of meetings, dialogue, and common witness.

“Your Holiness, with spiritual joy and profound respect, I join the stream of congratulations flowing from all sides on the occasion of your election and enthronement as the 142nd Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.

On my own behalf and on behalf of the flock entrusted to me, I express my respect and assure you that we will support you with fraternal prayer in the fulfillment of this responsible mission you have accepted.

Consider the family of Georgian Catholics as that same sister Church, which recognizes the common mission left to us by the Savior for the building of the Kingdom of Heaven, and have hope in our word and deed.

Together we are called to be witnesses of the one Gospel of Christ in a world where division and uncertainty prevail. In this spirit of Christian brotherhood, I hope that the path you are embarking upon will become an opportunity for meeting, dialogue, and common witness.

We pray for Your Holiness to receive the abundant grace of the Holy Spirit—wisdom for leadership, fortitude to overcome trials, and the peace that this world can neither give nor take away, so that your patriarchate may become a fruitful blessing for the Georgian Orthodox Church, all of Georgia, and the fullness of the Christian family in the Caucasus,” reads the congratulatory letter from Bishop Giuseppe Pasotto, Apostolic Administrator of the Caucasus for Latin Rite Catholics.
