Markéta Gregorová: Imedi and other pro-government channels violated European Parliament rules

MEP Markéta Gregorová commented on the one-year ban from the European Parliament imposed on Imedi TV, which had previously been sanctioned by the United Kingdom for spreading Russian disinformation. Gregorová explained that journalists from pro-government media outlets conducted interviews without prior authorization.

“I do not have official confirmation from the relevant services of the European Parliament that Imedi TV, Rustavi 2, and PosTV have been sanctioned, but if that is the case, I am glad that the rules apply to everyone. Firstly, I believe that propaganda channels had no business being in the European Parliament building in the first place. Secondly, they did not comply with parliamentary rules, which require prior consent for recording.

I was personally recorded without my consent while I was giving an interview to another broadcaster—Czech television. They shouted at me because I did not want to talk to them—not because of who they are, but simply because I did not have the time for a conversation. Following this, a smear campaign was launched against me in Georgia.

This should not happen, and it is not how democratic media would act. Therefore, I am very glad if the rules were indeed applied,” Markéta Gregorová stated.
