Passenger floods Red Wings aircraft during Moscow-Batumi flight

A flight operated by the Russian airline Red Wings from Moscow to Batumi was forced to make an emergency return to its departure airport after a passenger caused a flood on board.

The incident occurred shortly after takeoff from Zhukovsky Airport. Baza reports that a passenger went to the lavatory and pulled the faucet handle too forcefully while washing their hands, causing it to break.

Due to high water pressure, the service area in the tail section of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 began to flood rapidly. Flight attendants managed to shut off the water; however, the crew decided not to proceed with the flight and returned to Moscow.

There were 64 people on board. After landing, specialists inspected the aircraft, repaired the damage, and cleared it for takeoff once again.

According to preliminary data, the damage from the incident amounted to approximately 1 million rubles.
