Tbilisi Mayor vs. Mayor of Saarbrücken: “Letter of Condolence” Sent to the German People

0

The Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of “Georgian Dream” (Kartuli Otsneba), Kakha Kaladze, has addressed the German people with a “letter of condolence” following the decision by the Mayor of the German city of Saarbrücken to completely sever official ties with Tbilisi.

Kaladze writes that due to the decisions of a German bureaucracy “subordinate to the Deep State,” even historical friendship is being turned into a subject of political speculation.

According to him, it is particularly saddening that cultural and partnership ties formed over decades are being destroyed for the sake of unilateral political expediency.

Kaladze writes that because of leaders and politicians acting under the influence of informal oligarchic forces, Germany is effectively “submerged in a swamp” and faces serious challenges; however, German bureaucrats still find the time to evaluate the political situation in Georgia and take “decisive measures.”

“A Letter of Condolence to the German People:

Despite the long-standing friendship and mutual respect between the peoples of Georgia and Germany, unfortunately, due to the decisions of the German bureaucracy—which is subordinate to the Deep State—even historical friendship is becoming a subject of political speculation.

It is especially saddening that cultural and partnership ties, which took decades to form, are being destroyed due to unilateral political circumstances.

It is hard to believe that today, while a full-scale military conflict is underway on the European continent, Germany is practically submerged in a swamp and faces enormous challenges (an economic crisis, a sharply rising crime rate, demographic problems, a migrant crisis, social tension, and a crisis of values) because of leaders and politicians acting under the influence of informal oligarchic interests.

At the same time, German bureaucrats find the time to assess the political situation in Georgia and take ‘decisive measures,’ which is reflected, among other things, in the German city of Saarbrücken severing all ties with Tbilisi, with which it shared more than 50 years of sister-city relations.

If they were truly concerned about the political situation in European countries, instead of such absurd decisions, they should have paid attention to the distressing events in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, where batons and then police dogs were used against participants of a peaceful demonstration.

All of this probably best reflects the absurd and simultaneously tragic situation in which Germany finds itself under its current bureaucracy—a bureaucracy that serves not the interests of the Germans, but the interests of the Deep State. Meanwhile, we are talking about the rational German people and a country that has always been distinguished by a high political culture and respect for European values.

This is likely why questions are increasingly being raised within German society about the extent to which the current bureaucratic system corresponds to the interests and needs of the German people.

We believe that German society possesses sufficient wisdom and strength to maintain independent thinking, protect its national interests, and bring to power political forces that will address Germany’s real problems and act in accordance with the will of the German people,” reads the open letter—the “letter of condolence”—from the Mayor of Tbilisi to the German people.

Mayor of Tbilisi on possible break in relations with Saarbrücken: “It is their right”

As a reminder, as reported by the Saarbruecker Zeitung, after 51 years of sister-city status, the German city of Saarbrücken intends to terminate all official ties with Tbilisi.

According to the publication, a draft resolution proposed by the office of Mayor Uwe Conradt will be submitted to the Saarbrücken City Council on May 19. The Mayor recommends suspending all contacts with its twin city, Tbilisi, until further notice.

The author writes that this radical decision is explained by “serious reasons” related to current political events in Georgia.
