Journalist Nanuka Zhorzholiani has left the temporary detention facility in the city of Mtskheta after three days of arrest. Upon her release, she was met by family members and civil activists.
The TV presenter and founder of the Nanuka charitable foundation was sentenced to three days of administrative arrest on May 19. She was found guilty of creating an artificial obstacle to pedestrian movement on a sidewalk (Part 1 of Article 174-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).
Under the latest amendments to the Code, which penalize blocking sidewalks, other journalists and activists have also been detained in Georgia. The offense carries a penalty of up to 15 days of arrest, and up to one year of imprisonment for repeat offenses.
