SSG: Former Deputy Head of Georgia’s State Security Service Detained

The Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) has detained Levan Akhobadze, the former deputy head of the SSG. Agency representatives made the announcement during a special briefing.

According to the State Security Service, the official was detained for receiving an especially large bribe.

Akhobadze held his position under Grigol Liluashvili. The former SSG head himself was detained in December last year after reporting to the prosecutor’s office for questioning. He has also been charged with receiving an especially large bribe, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. The offense carries a prison sentence of 11 to 15 years.
