Media: Mandate of EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczyński extended

The mandate of the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, has been extended, the IPN news agency reports, citing the EU delegation in Tbilisi.

Delegation representatives also clarified that the European External Action Service (EEAS) has not yet made the aforementioned decision.

Paweł Herczyński’s four-year mandate as ambassador to Georgia was scheduled to expire in September 2026. He took up his duties in September 2022.

In recent years, relations between Brussels and Tbilisi have developed against the backdrop of a prolonged crisis. The EU ambassador is regularly subjected to harsh criticism from the ruling Georgian Dream party. Government representatives have repeatedly accused Herczyński of interfering in the country’s internal affairs, spreading disinformation, and acting in the interests of the “Deep State.” Paweł Herczyński was officially summoned to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide explanations regarding his recent statements.
