Parents of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy have thanked the public for their support during a solidarity marathon and announced new protests to demand that patients be provided with essential medications.
On May 24, the “Duchenne March” will take place in Tbilisi, moving from the Rustaveli metro station to the Government Administration building. Due to another scheduled event, the start time has been postponed to 19:30.
“Dear friends, loved ones, and strangers! We do not have enough words to express our gratitude for the help we have received from you.
At a time when our children’s health is deteriorating day by day, and the authorities present various arguments for not importing life-prolonging drugs into the country, we have received immense support from society,” the statement reads.
The statement emphasizes that thanks to public support, significant funds have already been raised:
- 1.3 million lari through a marathon organized by Ilia State University students
- over 120,000 lari through Bank of Georgia bonus points.
Donations continue to come in from companies and individuals.
