Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced the detention of two Iranian citizens on charges of attempting to illegally smuggle a migrant across the state border of Georgia, as well as illegal border crossing and attempted border crossing.
The investigation revealed that one of the detainees attempted to secretly transport the other across the Georgian border in his truck, bypassing the Sarpi border checkpoint.
The men were detained by police at the checkpoint.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 19-344 prime, 19-344, and 344 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The accused face up to five years in prison.
