Georgia is celebrating its Independence Day. Festive events marking the occasion will take place on Freedom Square in Tbilisi.
On May 26, conscripts will take the military oath, after which they will join the ranks of the Defense Forces of Georgia — the Armed Forces of Georgia. The ceremonies will take place not only in the capital, but also in 12 historical locations across the country.
Military hardware is already on display on Freedom Square.
“The scheduled program will begin at 11:00, and every citizen will have the opportunity to come and attend the events dedicated to May 26. The weapons, military hardware, and equipment at the disposal of the Defense Forces will be on display here. Exhibitions will also be held in 12 regions of Georgia, where residents will be able to see all of this,” said Lieutenant Colonel Lasha Zazadze.
Georgia celebrates Independence Day annually on May 26. It was on this day in 1918 that the National Council of Georgia adopted the “Act of Independence” in Tbilisi. This brought an end to the 117-year period of the country’s incorporation into the Russian Empire, which began after the annexation in 1801, and established the Democratic Republic of Georgia.
