On May 26, 2026, Georgia’s Independence Day, railway service on the Tbilisi–Baku–Tbilisi route was restored after a six-year hiatus.
The first train from Baku arrived in Tbilisi today at 08:41. It was welcomed on the platform by Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and Lasha Abashidze, Director General of Georgian Railway.
Railway service between Georgia and Azerbaijan to resume after 6-year break
Arriving passengers were treated to traditional Georgian sweets and wine.
A Stadler train owned by Azerbaijan Railways will operate on the route.
Abashidze emphasized that this decision is of “important and strategic significance,” adding that starting today, the service has been included in the daily schedule.
