To mark Georgia’s Independence Day, the Tbilisi City Hall announced that the Tbilisi TV Tower and the Bridge of Peace have been illuminated in the colors of the Georgian national flag.
“This day is ours! Tbilisi City Hall congratulates you on Georgia’s Independence Day!” the statement reads.
Georgia celebrates its Independence Day annually on May 26. It was on this day in 1918 that the National Council of Georgia adopted the “Act of Independence” in Tbilisi. This brought to an end a 117-year period of the country’s incorporation into the Russian Empire, which began after the annexation in 1801, and established the Democratic Republic of Georgia.
