Georgian PM: Police actions in Gori “absolutely unacceptable”

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze commented on the incident of police violence against citizens in Gori, emphasizing that the matter would receive an appropriate response from the relevant state agencies.

The head of government noted that the actions of the police officers, captured on video, were “absolutely unacceptable.”

“I have seen this footage—it is absolutely unacceptable. And, of course, the relevant state agencies must and will respond appropriately. Naturally, the public will be informed,” Kobakhidze stated.

Georgian Ombudsman calls for objective investigation into police violence in Gori

As a reminder, in Gori, in the so-called “Kombinat” district, a group of law enforcement officers used physical force against two men. The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has launched an investigation into the suspected abuse of authority by the police.

One of the participants in the Gori incident, Lasha Abisonashvili, recounted how the conflict with the police began, after which, according to him, he and his friend were beaten.

The man stated that the altercation began after a police car started tailing his friend, who was walking during his work break.

According to Abisonashvili, he tried to help his friend but ended up being beaten as well.
