Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia Launches Investigation into Police Violence in Gori

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has launched an investigation into the alleged abuse of official authority involving violence by police officers in the city of Gori.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 333, Part 3, Paragraph “b” of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

“At this stage, urgent investigative and procedural actions are being carried out. The public will be informed of the results of the investigation as soon as possible,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated.

In Gori, in the so-called “Kombinati” district, police detained two people. Video footage shows a group of law enforcement officers using physical violence against the detainees.

Media outlets report that the head of the Shida Kartli Police Department, Sergiy Bzishvili, was also present at the scene. It is reported that one of the detainees may have been carrying a bladed weapon.
