Georgian Prime Minister: Police Prevented Several Coup Attempts

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze congratulated employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on Police Day, celebrated in Georgia on May 31, and thanked them for their service.

Kobakhidze noted that police officers ensure law and order and the safety of citizens around the clock, often risking their own lives and health.

“It is upon your daily work and dedication that the stability and security Georgia is so proud of today are built, serving as the foundation for our country’s development,” Kobakhidze stated.

The Prime Minister pointed out that in recent years, the Georgian state has faced serious challenges, and credit goes to the police for preventing several attempts at a violent change of power — a “coup.”

Irakli Kobakhidze also stated that the Georgian police operate at a high professional level and hold a worthy place among the world’s best law enforcement systems. The head of government particularly highlighted their work in combating organized crime, corruption, and illegal migration.

The Prime Minister described the high reputation and trust among Georgian citizens as the main proof of the police force’s effectiveness.
